ARE YOU MAKING LIFE HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE? đ”âđ« LET'S CHANGE THAT.

You're giving it your all, checking every box, doing everything ârightââyet life still feels like a sufferfest.
Â
Maybe itâs exhaustion from overworking, frustration from spinning your wheels, or a lingering sense that no matter how much effort you put in, true ease and fulfillment feel just out of reach.
Â
I get itâbecause Iâve been there.
Â
This past summer, I learned a painful lesson. I injured my back by herniating three discs and compressing two nerves. I experienced the most excruciating pain of my life. đ”âđ« I threw everything at itâphysio, chiro, massage, Pilatesâforcing myself through exercises and treatments, determined to push my way to recovery. But no matter how hard I tried, progress was slow, frustrating, and barely noticeable.
Â
What finally helped me wasnât more toughness or perseveranceâit was the opposite.
Â
I stayed in a hotel in Banff, where the mattress was softer than my rock-firm bed at home. And for the first time in months, I felt some real relief. I never would have guessed that comfortânot gritâwould be the key to my recovery. đȘ
Â
Because I had a beliefâa completely unexamined and, frankly, ridiculous beliefâthat soft mattresses are for soft people. In other words, I believed that softness was weakness. I had always heard that firm mattresses were âgood for your back,â and I extrapolated that to mean that only weak, soft people opted for comfort. I believed struggle built strength.
Â
On our way home, I ordered a 4-inch soft mattress topper for my firmest-of-the-firm bed. And wouldnât you know it? I started to heal. Not just physically, but mentally as I let go of a limiting belief that was keeping me in pain.

Are You Holding onto Struggle Like a Badge of Honour?
Â
We all do this in different ways. We identify with our suffering. We believe that hard work must feel hard, that rest is indulgent, and that if we just push through, things will eventually get better.
Â
But what if thatâs not true?
Â
The Hidden Beliefs That Might Be Holding You Back
Â
Here are some common ones:
đ« âIf I donât do it all myself, Iâm failing.â (Truth: Accepting help is not weakness.)
đ« âRest is unproductive.â (Truth: Itâs where real growth happens.)
đ« âIf itâs not hard, it doesnât count.â (Truth: Suffering isnât a requirement for success.)
đ« âI have to prove my worth by overworking.â (Truth: Your worth is inherent, not earned.)
đ« âIf I slow down, Iâll fall behind.â (Truth: Sometimes, slowing down moves you forward.)
Â
So, what beliefs might be keeping you stuck? And what would happen if you let them go? đ€
