ARE YOU MAKING LIFE HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE? đŸ˜”â€đŸ’« LET'S CHANGE THAT.

Updated: 2 days ago

You're giving it your all, checking every box, doing everything “right”—yet life still feels like a sufferfest.

Maybe it’s exhaustion from overworking, frustration from spinning your wheels, or a lingering sense that no matter how much effort you put in, true ease and fulfillment feel just out of reach.

I get it—because I’ve been there.

This past summer, I learned a painful lesson. I injured my back by herniating three discs and compressing two nerves. I experienced the most excruciating pain of my life. đŸ˜”â€đŸ’« I threw everything at it—physio, chiro, massage, Pilates—forcing myself through exercises and treatments, determined to push my way to recovery. But no matter how hard I tried, progress was slow, frustrating, and barely noticeable.

What finally helped me wasn’t more toughness or perseverance—it was the opposite.

I stayed in a hotel in Banff, where the mattress was softer than my rock-firm bed at home. And for the first time in months, I felt some real relief. I never would have guessed that comfort—not grit—would be the key to my recovery. đŸ’Ș

Because I had a belief—a completely unexamined and, frankly, ridiculous belief—that soft mattresses are for soft people. In other words, I believed that softness was weakness. I had always heard that firm mattresses were “good for your back,” and I extrapolated that to mean that only weak, soft people opted for comfort. I believed struggle built strength.

On our way home, I ordered a 4-inch soft mattress topper for my firmest-of-the-firm bed. And wouldn’t you know it? I started to heal. Not just physically, but mentally as I let go of a limiting belief that was keeping me in pain.

Are You Holding onto Struggle Like a Badge of Honour?

We all do this in different ways. We identify with our suffering. We believe that hard work must feel hard, that rest is indulgent, and that if we just push through, things will eventually get better.

But what if that’s not true?

The Hidden Beliefs That Might Be Holding You Back

Here are some common ones:

đŸš« “If I don’t do it all myself, I’m failing.” (Truth: Accepting help is not weakness.)

đŸš« “Rest is unproductive.” (Truth: It’s where real growth happens.)

đŸš« “If it’s not hard, it doesn’t count.” (Truth: Suffering isn’t a requirement for success.)

đŸš« “I have to prove my worth by overworking.” (Truth: Your worth is inherent, not earned.)

đŸš« “If I slow down, I’ll fall behind.” (Truth: Sometimes, slowing down moves you forward.)

So, what beliefs might be keeping you stuck? And what would happen if you let them go? đŸ€”
