One of the most powerful ways to understand the impact of coaching is to hear the lived experiences of those who have walked the path themselves. Stories ground the abstract. They show us what’s possible when someone dares to slow down, listen to themselves, and make different choices.
In my coaching, I often use metaphors to illuminate those choices. Metaphors give shape and language to what can otherwise feel blurry or hard to articulate. They help us see our own patterns more clearly—such as the Lone Wolf who insists on carrying it all alone. These images hold up a mirror, offering both recognition and possibility: a way to name where you’ve been, and a way to imagine where you could go.
That’s why I want to share Kathleen’s journey with you. Her story may not be identical to yours—but the themes of exhaustion, overwhelm, and craving something more sustainable are ones so many of us quietly carry. By seeing how Kathleen moved from constant motion to grounded independence and belonging, my hope is that you’ll find a mirror for your own challenges and an invitation to imagine what your transformation could look like.
This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about real change—honest, gradual, and lasting.
With that, I invite you into Kathleen’s story.
Before Coaching: Life as a Travelling Circus Performer
When Kathleen entered coaching, she was in a state of constant motion. Her life was nonstop. As the “Travelling Circus Performer,” Kathleen was always on the road, showing up for others, doing whatever was needed. Her life was in a state of flux. She was exhausted, anxious, and spread thin.
“I’m at everyone’s beck and call,” she shared. “I drive from one city to the next and have no time for myself until the end of the day when I am overtired and use social media or TV to numb myself into sleep.”
Like many high-functioning professionals, Kathleen found safety in staying busy. If she kept moving, she felt in control. But deep down, she was craving stillness, security, and the ability to assert her own needs without guilt.
The Coaching Journey: Slowing Down, Tuning In
Kathleen’s coaching focused on reconnecting with her own body, mind, and heart. Using mindfulness, somatic awareness, and powerful self-observation tools, she began to identify when the Travelling Circus Performer was running the show and what it cost her.
She started asking new questions: Am I rested? What do I need today? These seemingly simple inquiries helped Kathleen begin to gently shift from constant motion to intentional choice.
After Coaching: Embracing the Way of the Peaceful Artist
In the months during and following our work together, Kathleen’s life transformed in tangible, meaningful ways. She moved out of the chaos of constant commuting and into a home of her own—a space she purchased independently, designed for peace and rootedness. Her relationship with her partner improved with new, healthy boundaries. And most importantly, she began creating a life with more stillness, joy, and clarity.
“Your words have been in my head over the past few months giving me strength,” she wrote. “GOODBYE Travelling Circus Performer, HELLO Peaceful Artist.”
Though her paints are still in boxes, Kathleen now knows what it means to live a life she’s creating—not just reacting to. She’s learning to trust stillness, to be patient with herself, and to hold the brush with confidence as she paints each new chapter.
Key Shifts
• From exhaustion to energy
• From obligation to discernment
• From reaction to creation
• From “hand-to-mouth” existence to grounded independence
• From performing for others to asserting her needs
In Her Words:
“It will take time. More time than I anticipated. And I am not good at being patient. I have to learn to channel that peace.”
Kathleen’s journey is a beautiful reminder: deep change doesn’t happen overnight—but with the right support, it does happen. And when it does, it’s transformational.
